Welcome to the Automattic Open Horizons Scholarship application.
We’re honored to support contributors who make WordPress better for everyone. This short application (10–15 minutes) helps us understand your contributions, goals, and how we can help you attend your next WordPress Flagship event. Let’s begin.
Please review the full criteria below before submitting your application.
The Open Horizons Scholarship supports active WordPress contributors who wish to participate in official flagship WordCamps. The first eligible event is WordCamp US 2025.
Applicants must:
- Be active contributors to the WordPress open source project.
- Have demonstrated impact or leadership within the WordPress community.
- Have demonstrated ongoing contributions to the WordPress project over the past 12 months.
- Have clearly articulated goals for continued contribution in the application form.
- Have a confirmed role at the selected event (organizer, speaker, facilitator, volunteer, etc.)
Preference will be given to contributors from underrepresented groups and/or regions. Contributors can apply for events outside their region.
The scholarship may cover:
- Travel (e.g. flights, trains, buses)
- Lodging/accommodation
- Visa application fees
- Meals and local transport during the event (a stipend for “living expenses” of 60$/day)
- Childcare expenses related to attending the event
- Accessibility needs (e.g. mobility support, interpreters)
Note: The maximum amount awarded per scholarship is $3,000 USD. Funds must be used specifically for event-related costs. Stipends for other use will not be provided.
If selected, recipients are expected to contribute to and fully attend the event, act in line with the [Community Code of Conduct] (https://make.wordpress.org/community/handbook/wordcamp-organizer/planning-details/code-of-conduct/), and share a post-event blog post reflecting on the experience.
